J.D. Crowe is a legendary player who, alongside Earl Scruggs, had a profound influence on the history of bluegrass banjo. This instrument is a used 1998 "RB-75 J.D.Crowe" model inspired by the 1938 RB-75 that J.D. Crowe used. It features a 1-piece mahogany neck and mahogany resonator, and a 3-ply maple rim. The most distinctive feature of this model is the specially designed Crowe Tone Ring. This guitar features a different design from typical Mastertone flathead tone rings, is said to be slightly lighter, and was developed to reproduce the tone J.D. Crowe desired. The Crowe Tone Ring is characterized by rich lows, thick mids, and a clear, powerful attack typical of bluegrass. It has a rosewood fingerboard with flying eagle inlays, a one-piece flange, nickel hardware, original nickel ivoroid knobs, and J.D. Crowe's name engraved on the truss rod cover. J.D.
