About this listing
Up for sale is the wonderful Korg Sigma, in very good condition for its age. I bought it from Unisound in Japan, who serviced it before it shipped to me. It's in great working condition, and it comes with a case.If you haven't played one, the Sigma is a very unique and very performative synth. Korg made it in 1979 with two sections you can use alone or stacked: an analog Synthe side and an Instrument side with organ-style preset switches. The presets are fine on their own, but layer them under the synth voice, detune a little, and it gets thick in a way that doesn't sound like anything else from that era. Add the ring mod for metallic, clangy tones, plus PWM and some of the best white noise I've heard in an analog synth. The two joysticks are the best part. One handles pitch bend and vibrato, the other sweeps the HP nad LP filters, so you can play it with both hands and get expression most vintage monos don't offer. It's also a good-looking piece, with the wood-ish end cheeks and the very late-70s Korg panel. It's the kind of synth that shows up on records by people like Rick Wakeman, and I can see why. It's got character, and it's far less common than the usual Minimoog and Prophet suspects.Condition: very good++. Normal light wear for a 40+ year old instrument. See photos - there some nicks on the cheeks and the volume knob has a ding in it. Otherwise it is one of the best KP-30s you'll find. Everything works - all keys, joysticks, presets, outputs - the only thing of note is that the pot for Synthe/Instr mix can be a bit noisy initially, but goes away after a few minutes of working it in both directions. It is 100V, so a step-down transformer is recommended for prolonged use in the US.Happy to answer questions or send more photos and a sound clip. Packed carefully and shipped insured.
