About this listing
Available to try out and collect from London NW2!This 1963 Harmony H54 Rocket is a classic example of one of Harmony’s most recognisable 1960s electric guitars, produced during the company’s peak years in Chicago. Known for their distinctive styling and characterful pickups, Rockets have become increasingly appreciated for their unique sound and vintage charm. The H54 features a fully hollow body with a slim, comfortable profile that makes it exceptionally light and responsive in the hands. Finished in the familiar Sunburst, the guitar carries the understated mid-century aesthetic typical of Harmony instruments from this period, with simple binding and clean lines that emphasise the elegant single-cutaway shape.Electronics are centred around two original DeArmond “gold foil” pickups, widely regarded as one of the defining elements of the Rocket series. These pickups produce a clear, articulate tone with a slightly raw edge that sits somewhere between a traditional single-coil and a lower-output humbucker. The result is a highly expressive sound that works equally well for blues, early rock and roll, garage, and vintage pop styles. Controls follow Harmony’s straightforward layout with individual volume and tone controls and a three-way selector switch, allowing a useful range of tonal combinations. The fully hollow construction gives the guitar a lively acoustic resonance and an open, woody amplified voice, contributing to the slightly gritty, characterful tone that has made these models favourites among players looking for something a little different from the mainstream designs of the era.Condition is consistent with a well-preserved vintage instrument, showing honest age-related wear and dings typical of a guitar now over sixty years old. The strap button has been moved from the upper horn to the back of the neck heel and there is a crack in the pick guard (see photos). These signs of use add to its authenticity while the instrument remains a very playable example. Please message for more photos if required.Comes with a freestyle hard case for protection. Available for both postage and collection!A highly characteristic early-1960s American hollowbody, this Harmony H54 Rocket offers vintage tone, distinctive styling, and a genuine piece of Chicago-built guitar history.
