With the tone stock bypassed, the pedal brings out a darker, fuzzier texture perfect for garage-y applications where a touch more gain is preferred. Engaging the tone stack cuts the low-end response slightly, adds brightness and generally tightens the sound. Personal preference is key here, different settings will work better with different pickup types, and other pedals.
