BUILD AND DESIGN

The MV 692 features a slim, precision-machined cylindrical metal housing with a clean, utilitarian design typical of professional broadcast equipment. The body provides excellent mechanical stability and effective shielding against interference. Capsule threading and internal mounting points are engineered for precise alignment and long-term durability. The 692 also features a low cut and a 10 db switch.

CAPSULE INTERFACE
The amplifier is compatible with the full range of Gefell screw-mount capsules, including the M70, the  M94, and related variants. The modular interface allows the sonic character of the microphone to be defined almost entirely by the capsule choice, while the amplifier remains electrically neutral.

The MV 692 uses a discrete FET solid-state  AMP design optimised for:

  • Low self-noise
  • Linear frequency response
  • High electrical stability
  • Reliable operation in continuous professional use

Intentionally transparent,  This PRE is preserving the capsule’s transient behaviour and frequency balance without coloration.

Capsule

The UM70 is a dual-diaphragm, large-diaphragm condenser capsule operating as a pressure-gradient system. Pattern selection is achieved through polarization of the front and rear diaphragms rather than acoustic switching.
Key construction features include:

  • Dual diaphragm design for multi-pattern operation
  • Omnidirectional, cardioid, and figure-8 polar patterns
  • Classic Gefell backplate geometry
  • Precisely machined capsule housing for modular mounting

Compared to later capsule designs that emphasize pronounced presence boosts or extended high-frequency lift, the UM70 remains conservative and controlled. Its polar patterns are stable and predictable, and pattern transitions do not introduce abrupt tonal shifts — a crucial attribute for stereo and room recording.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

SOUND CHARACTERISTICS

neutral excellence sounds like. quiet and dramatic close position

The microphone is open, balanced, fast, and deeply controlled. No exaggerated coloration, no artificial sheen — just clarity, depth, and authority. It takes EQ beautifully, handles dynamics effortlessly, and stays composed even on demanding sources.

Equally at home on:

  • Vocals
  • Piano
  • Acoustic instruments
  • Room and ambient recording
  • Stereo or MS applications

FREQUENCY RESPONSE

43 Hz – 17,800 Hz
