GUYATONE EB-5 BASS c.1969 JAPAN - ALL ORIGINAL

This is a short-lived short-scale bass model from the late 1960s. Only featured in catalogues for 1968 and 1969.

Surf-influenced solid offset looks and high-output vintage thump.

And it's in really super condition for its age.

Condition-wise...

It appears to be completely all-original including one of the most striking full tortoise pick guard designs out there. Stare into that gorgeous swirl and see faces you recognise...

There are a few minor edge bumps to the the body and head plus one small neck impression behind the 2nd fret. This can barely be felt and does not impact in any way at all. (See photos)

Original closed tuners function well and there is ample truss rod adjustment.

The steel bridge is totally adjustable and still retains the original mute strip. Just add foam, adjust up to taste and mute away.

Guyatone necks and pickups are uniformly excellent.

This one has a cool metal zero fret, rosewood short-scale fretboard and a super slim bound maple neck. Incredibly comfortable particularly for small hands.

In action this bass feels very solid and balanced. An unexpectedly chunky feel for a short-scale.

Similarly the deep punch this wee lad pumps out is arch-vintage cool. High output and wide-range it packs a serious clout.

Overall...

We are serious Guyatone fans as our other listings reveal.

Perhaps not as wild or collectable as other models from the period, the EB-5 was in effect a transition model for Guyatone. But it sure has character.

Not to mention the immense amount of fun it is to play.
