EXCEPTIONAL ENGINEERING

Thinking outside the box. Using new designs or materials to allow special qualities and innovation in audio. This microphone featuring a soft outer shall - is exactly the kind of creative design that excites me and has amazing practical benefits.

The Beyerdynamic M 411 N (T) is a dynamic microphone developed in Germany and produced mainly during the late 1970s and 1980s.

Built to withstand intensive handling and high sound pressure levels, it features a creative solution to push Beyerdynamic’s pragmatic approach to durability, reliability, and consistent performance

This model became widely used in broadcast, education, and live environments, where microphones were expected to survive, constant handling, and daily use without compromising function.

OPTICAL CONDITION

Good overall condition with visible signs of use consistent with regular handling over time. The flexible housing shows cosmetic wear but remains intact and fully functional. No cracks or structural damage.

TECHNICAL CONDITION

Technically fully functional. Capsule performs as intended, handling high SPL confidently with stable output. No intermittent noise or mechanical issues. Suitable for immediate use.

BUILD & DESIGN

The M 411 N (T) features one of the most unconventional housing designs found in a professional dynamic microphone. Instead of a rigid metal body, Beyerdynamic used a flexible, rubberised plastic housing with viscoelastic properties. This softness is an intentional design feature, not wear or degradation.

The flexible shell acts as an external mechanical damping system, absorbing impact energy, drops, knocks, and handling vibrations before they can reach the capsule. This significantly reduces structure-borne noise and mechanical shock, particularly in handheld use. Unlike metal housings, the body does not ring or dent, instead deforming slightly and returning to shape.

Internally, the dynamic omni capsule is mechanically stabilised and acoustically controlled, ensuring that the soft exterior does not compromise clarity or transient response. The omni pressure design avoids proximity effect, maintaining a consistent low-frequency response even at close distances, which makes the microphone particularly effective on loud sources and close-miked speech.

Overall, the design prioritises durability, handling noise suppression, and long-term reliability — a microphone engineered to survive demanding use rather than studio display.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Type: Dynamic
Polar pattern: cardioid
Output: Balanced

connector: Standard Big Tuchel

SOUND CHARACTERISTICS

Energetic and controlled, with strong transient response when driven by louder sources. The cardioid capsule delivers a natural low end and forced midrange. Particularly well suited for loud speech, amplified sources, drums and close-miking where stability and impact are more important than fine acoustic detail.

FREQUENCY RESPONSE

Frequency response: approx. 50 Hz – 15,000 Hz

  • Extended and even low-frequency response due to omni pressure design
  • Clear midrange presence
  • Smooth high-frequency roll-off, avoiding harshness
