After the last Relic-Gilmour was sold in a very short time, we went looking again and are delighted to be able to offer you another replica of the most legendary Strat today. The original, David Gilmour's black '69 Strat, achieved an auction value of almost $4,000,000 in 2019, the highest price ever achieved for a guitar. This Stratocaster accompanied Gilmour for more than 45 years and was used by him on seminal albums such as “Atom Heart Mother”, “Meddle”, “Obscured by Clouds”, “Dark Side of the Moon”, “Wish You Were Here”, “Animals” and “The Wall”. It was 1970 when David Gilmour bought the Black Strat from Manny's in New York, a standard model with a characteristic maple neck and a large headstock. Over the years David made numerous modifications. For example, he switched to the legendary black pickguard and installed a mini toggle switch to be able to switch the neck pickup to the middle or bridge pickup, which according to his long-time guitar technician Phil Taylor gave him a certain Jazzmaster sound. He also installed a 57 maple neck and a Seymour Duncan SSL-5 specially wound for him on the bridge. Modeled on the original down to the last detail this replica from 2009 plays super slinky with the characteristic, slightly thinner Gilmour neck profile (1983 Thin-Shouldered C), 7.25'' fingerboard radius and Vintage-Style frets, making it effortless to whizz across the medium-brown maple fingerboard. Of course Typical Gilmour sound! The “Fat 50s” on the neck and the customwound 69s singlecoil in the middle have a wonderfully bell-like, pearly sound and the fantastic SSL-5 will not only enchant fans of Pink Floyd. “Comfortably Numb”, ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’ or ‘Atom Heart Mother’ just flow out of your fingers. The aging of the deep black finish is authentic down to the last nuance and enormously detail-oriented. Not only can you see that the black finish on David's Stratocaster was a subsequent overspray, but in addition to countless hairline cracks and blemishes you can even recognize the traces of the Kahler vibrato that was installed in the meantime. The case has a few scratches here, but aside from some minor signs of wear and play the guitar is in top condition and comes with some valuable extras, such as a live CD and most notably Phil Taylor's book "The Black Strat".
