CKBK UM53 /w 8A3 Capsule Cardioid FET Condenser Microphone — 1973, USSR

For sale is an exceptionally rare CKBK UM 53 FET condenser microphone, an impressive piece of Soviet audio history. Known for its high-quality sound capture, the UM 53 rivals even the legendary LOMO tube microphones in some applications. This unit comes with the original CKBK 8A3 cardioid capsule, initially designed for use in film and music studios across the USSR.

This particular UM 53 microphone and 8A3 capsule, manufactured by CKBK (Central Design Bureau of Cinematography / NPO EKRAN) rather than LOMO, are likely from one of the earliest prototype series. Produced in 1973, with serial numbers 730008 for the microphone and 730001 for the capsule, this set is exceptionally rare. In fact, the 8A3 capsule's serial number suggests it may be the very first to enter production.

Unique features further mark this set as a prototype: the capsule lacks threading and instead fits directly onto the microphone body, and the UM 53 itself has its labeling printed upside-down, likely an oversight in this initial run. Altogether, this microphone and capsule represent a unique collector’s edition and an irreplaceable piece of history.
