VIDEO! Hopf Telstar Standard ~1963 - rare vintage

Welcome to another fine guitar from The Old Europe! Please make sure to read the entire description below carefully, and look at all the pictures.

General introduction and background:

Ultra rare Hopf Telstar Standard, made in Germany in the early 1960s. It is a classic of the very early German electric guitar manufacturing.

As always, the instrument has been serviced completely and is ready to be played immediately.

Measurements, weight and other specs:

-Scale:  620 mm

-Nut: 43 mm

-Weight: 3,06 kg

-Pickups: Two original Schaller singlecoils measuring 4,89k (Neck) and 4,3k (Bridge). The circuits allow various levels of tone and volume presets which can help during a song, when you have to quickly switch back and forth between various sounds. The wiring allows for 3 presets:

“M” – full volume, adjustable with tone and volume

“R” – reduced volume, adjustable with tone and volume

“Treble” – another setting which immediately switches to the bridge pickup only and thins the sound out (less volume). Adjustable in theory, yet the pot is broken.

-Body: solid wood, likely birch or poplar

-Neck: slim yet wide D, medium jumbo frets, 12’’ Radius, rosewood fingerboard.

Condition:

-Body: Good condition with no major marks of use on the top, yet some scratches on the back. The colour has faded to this now greenish tone, yet was almost blue originally.

-Neck: neck is straight, frets are in good condition (7/10) with no buzz or fretting out. There is no adjustable trussrod.

There is a fissure in the headstock (see pics), but it doesn’t go deep and is absolutely stable.

-Hardware: good shape, even has the original string dampening device which was lost many times

-Electrics: fully functional except for the upper treble poti, which is broken (it doesn’t do anything, broken on the inside)

-Originality: all original with the exception of some tiny details like one tuner peg or an odd screwhole next to the pickguard.

Sound and Playability:

-Playability and string action: The playability is excellent with a string action of 1,5 mm set up at the 12th fret.

-Sound: While the bridge pickup is very twangy and trebly, the combo and the neck pickup are very full and warm yet with a lot of “woodiness” to them. Please watch the video!

As always, the instrument has been serviced completely and is ready to be played immediately.

-Completely cleaned

-Frets polished and fretboard oiled

-Electrics serviced and string grounding wire installed

-Bridge / string action adjusted – completely set up to be played immediately

-New set of Pyramid 10 gauge strings

-Ready to be played (just tune it up);

Auxiliary stuff:

-Comes with its original gigbag, which unfortunately has a broken zipper, so it only serves covering the guitar but not anything else. The guitar will be wrapped well, and put into a sturdy cardboard box with lots of filler material. If you wish I can buy a fitting case at your costs.

AFTER DELIVERY: After receiving the item, please inspect the package for obvious damages and make photos if there are any. After unpacking, check the item immediately for damages or other undocumented flaws. I accept a 14 days return and will pay for shipping if the item is in a different condition than described upon arrival. Please note that I will only take the item back entirely, but not grant any reduction of price and generally only accept returns if the item was unaltered after arrival.
