Purpleheart wood, which is not familiar in the drum industry, is native to Central and South America, and is a model that has joined the DW Pure shell since 2017. The unique coloring and hard shell are more solid than made from oak, giving you plenty of attack and punchy sound. It also has the warmth that maple and birch don't have, allowing you to enjoy a fresh sound. The shell uses 12-ply horizontal + vertical low timber and repeats "vertical + horizontal + vertical" four times, creating a shell structure that emphasizes the midrange.
About 6 years ago, snare shells used "HVLT" (outer side grain), but now they are VLT shells, which create a sound that is more in the bass range. If you look it up on the internet, there are many horizontal grain shells. You can see it, but it is now vertically grained.
The hoop has a 3mm thick triple flange that is more rigid than the previous model and is equipped with a hoop that not only provides openness during rim shots, but also produces a thick and solid sound. In addition, the magnetic throw-off and 3-position bat allow for a variety of sound making.
