You are looking at a rare and unique 1930's era Universal model 10 carbon microphone. This was a very common design for it's time and it comes with the all metal chromed period Universal ring and equally beautiful 1940's era Atlas desk stand. This classic style of microphone was made by several American companies before disappearing altogether around the late 1930's to early 1940's.
This spring mic is in very nice physical condition considering it's age as seen in the pictures provided. The model 10 element shows very few signs of wear (mostly fine scratches) and has never been disassembled. It has all of it's original components and looks pretty damn nice overall but I don't know how to properly wire this mic so I really have no idea if there is any output at all? The connectors are still present on this mic and could be rewired if you know the correct diagram. I would rate this mic an easy 8 + on a scale of 1 -10. The mic comes with older springs too though I can't verify that they are original.
The mic comes with an all metal Universal brand (chrome plated) ring that is period to the mic. Everything on the mic and ring are original. These old spring mics are almost always missing a few springs or all the springs entirely. The chrome plating is quite nice and I believe the inner metal itself is brass.
The stand is a slightly newer 1940's Atlas DS-6 model and works very well that's very appealing to the eye. I don't know the brand of the stand but it's certainly 70 + years. The base has the desirable chrome plating that Atlas only made for a couple years before discontinuing this style for the basic cast iron finish. The base shows lite scuffs, pitting and scratches but zero fractures or dents. It makes for a very stable platform due to it's weight and has the original felt pads to keep it from scratching any surface it may rest on.
The base has a side notch on the base in case you want the mics cable to exit down the riser and out the side of the base.
The chrome riser is brass as well and in very nice condition raising the mic up quite a bit.
The actual Universal element is only 2 1/2 inches across and the measurements with stand and ring are 16 1/2 inches in height X 6 inches wide.
If you are a serious collector of vintage Americans mics then you know what a unique mic this is. She'll make an awesome display piece anywhere it sits in the home, studio or office.
