1985 Shergold Custom Masquerader Left Handed 12 String Electric Guitar 100% Original UK Made

Up for sale, a left handed 1985 Shergold Custom Masquerader 12 string electric guitar in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Made in the U.K., this late period Shergold carries the torch from its Burns-designed and Hayman-branded predecessor, built in the same factory with robust construction and premium craftsmanship. A 12 string version of the model Bernard Sumner of Joy Division used circa Transmission, this Shergold channels that 80s shimmery jangle chorus without the need of a pedal assist. The body has solid obeche wings and a central three-ply maple and mahogany core. Notably light at 7lbs 9oz and quite well-balanced on a strap, this Shergold has been freshly restrung and dialed in for comfortable action.

Tonally, this Shergold has an extremely wide sonic range, and the modest output of the original humbucker pair allows for ample top end content and shimmering 12 string chime to translate through the pickups. In addition to the traditional three-way pickup selector switch, each humbucker has its own dedicated three-way toggle which offers both coil tapping and out-of-phase options between the pickup coils.

The solid maple neck feels incredibly sturdy yet elegant, handling the 12 string tension with ease. The neck has a slender C shaped profile at the nut with moderate shoulder and more depth and roundness as you travel up the fretboard, filling the palm nicely and measuring .812” at the 1st fret and .985” at the 12th. The 25 1/2“ scale fretboard retains the original nigh flawless fretwire, playing cleanly in every register. The headstock has the distinct Hayman shape with black shield logo and a set of 12 black Schaller tuners with chrome buttons, offering both minimal weight for limiting neck dive and also a superior gear ratio. The eight round string guides ensure that all strings travel straight across the nut and also provide a proper break angle, allowing the player to dig in without fear of string slippage during passionate strums.

All of the original electronics work as intended, and the hardware consists of a top loader bridge with six brass saddles which aid in the treble zing and sparkle that this instrument provides. The original plastic parts are clean as can be, with flawless silkscreened text on the pickguard. Cosmetically this Masquerader is in great condition, with wear limited to some light scattered shallow scratches and dings on the original amber sunburst body finish. The neck has a smooth gloss finish, with only one shallow mark behind the 2nd fret on the bass side of the profile which doesn't affect playability in the slightest.

Rare in any condition, this 100% original left handed Shergold 12 string is an extremely effective tool and an elegant instrument that carries on the rich Burns and Hayman legacy via the Shergold brand.
