The Dr. Scientist Cosmichorus is a versatile, unique, and high quality, analog chorus pedal. It can go from subtle, thick chorusing, to extreme, modulating chaos and everywhere in between. It’s true bypass, runs on 9VDC (only), and comes in custom finishes.

The Cosmichorus doesn’t stop at giving you an incredible array of chorus sounds though… Dr. Scientist insists you have an incredible amount of control over the sounds too!

Mix – Controls the blend of dry and wet signals to the output. All the way down is dry and all the way up is wet. With the mix knob all the way up you’re hearing only the output of the BBD chip, also known as pitch vibrato. To simulate popular vibrato pedals of the past, dial in some more dry signal, e.g.: mix knob at 2 or 3 o’clock, and for chorus sounds stay in the 10 to 1 o’clock range.

Volume – Controls the level of the wet signal, used in conjunction with the Mix knob to create your chorus sound. The more wet you set your Mix knob the lower you’ll want to set your Volume knob, as the wet signal is louder than the dry signal.

Treble – Controls the high end content of the wet signal.

Clock – Controls the intensity of the chorus effect, used in conjunction with the lowest toggle switch. The toggle switch provides 3 different ranges of clock settings, middle is the mildest, right is medium, and left is the most dramatic. The Clock knob then varies the signal within that range from minimum to maximum.

Hold – This knob is only active when the middle toggle switch is set to the left, to Hold mode. And remember, the pedal can’t be turned on in Hold mode, you have to toggle to the right, click the pedal on, and then toggle to the left for Hold mode. In Hold mode the wet signal is frozen in time until you hold down the stomp switch, then it starts modulating. The Hold knob increases the amount of time it takes for the effect to fade in when the stomp is held down and fade out when the stomp is released.

Invert toggle – This toggle inverts the phase of the wet signal. In mono this changes the character of the sound when mixed with the dry signal. In stereo it changes the width of the stereo spread between the amps.

Expression/CV jacks – On the side of the pedal, the upper jack is for the rate. You can control the rate with a manual expression pedal, must be TRS, and nearly any value will work fine. You can also send in a control voltage signal and it will control the rate.

The lower jack is for the oscillator. You can control the sweep of the chorus effect manually with an expression pedal, must be TRS, and 50k or over is best. You can also send in a control voltage signal and it will drive the effect.

The trim-pots on the PCB are mainly for fine-tuning the controls, they bias the BBD for maximum headroom, set the mid position frequency of the rate control, set the brightness of the on/off LED, and can also lower the input signal level.

Cosmichorus needs 9VDC, centre negative, and 120mA. Please use an adaptor that's specifically designed for guitar effects or you will get noise and/or hum.
