MODEL DESCRIPTION

The Beyerdynamic M55 LM is a wonderfully compact German dynamic microphone with considerably more physical substance than its dimensions suggest.

Its short black metal housing, polished horizontal grille and surprisingly heavy construction give the M55 a particularly solid industrial feel.

The LM version is the lower-impedance member of the M55 family and particularly convenient for modern studio use.

BUILD & DESIGN

Despite its small size, the M55 LM is remarkably substantial.

The compact housing also makes positioning particularly easy. As a pair, two M55s can form a very small stereo arrangement without large microphone bodies getting in the way.

Both microphones in this set have been converted to balanced XLR for straightforward use with modern recording equipment.

SOUND

The M55 LM has a clear, open and balanced sound for a compact vintage dynamic.

focused with a solid midrange and a open bright but balanced and not shinning , unobtrusive top end.

The midrange is articulate , while the upper range provides useful definition without pronounced brightness. Low frequencies remain controlled rather than exaggerated.

This makes the M55 useful for guitar cabinets, percussion, snare, speech and general close miking, where its small dimensions are another practical advantage.

TWO M55 AS A STEREO PAIR

These two M55 LMs were selected and prepared specifically as a pair.

Together on a stereo bar, their compact dimensions and individually adjustable angles create a particularly neat stereo system for piano, percussion, acoustic instruments, amplifiers and experimental stereo recording.

But neither microphone is dependent on the other.

Separate them and you simply have two independent vintage dynamic microphones, each with its own holder and XLR connection.

That flexibility is what makes the pair particularly useful: two compact German dynamics for independent close miking, with the additional option of using them together as a stereo system.
