The Yamaha PSS-100 has a genuine connection to modern pop production history. Producer Benny Blanco has specifically stated that he used a Yamaha PSS-100 on Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” and Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok,” as well as on many other songs. He famously sourced inexpensive vintage/“toy” keyboards to create unique sounds rather than relying on expensive synthesizers.
This makes the PSS-100 a particularly interesting piece of vintage gear for producers, collectors and anyone looking for those distinctive lo-fi, quirky and unmistakably vintage Yamaha sounds.
