More than any other subgenre, Shoegazers love pedals—maybe they just need cool stuff to look at while they're gazing down. Jokes aside, if you’re building a shoegaze/dream-pop rig a la My Bloody Valentine or Slowdive, you’re probably holding an Offset Guitar with a whammy. From there, it’s all about building an uber-compressed wash with plenty of reverb, reverse modulation, and, of course, an over-the-top fuzz. Since the original generation of shoegazers operated in a time before the boutique pedal explosion, they relied mostly on standards from Boss and other big makers. This means many cornerstone shoegaze effects can be found easily and on the cheap.
