The GuitarHere's a clean example of the bass that defined a sound: a 1991 Rickenbacker 4003 in Red, entirely original and in very good condition. The serial number dates it to September 1991.The 4003 needs little introduction. Neck-through-body construction with a maple and walnut laminate neck running the full length of the instrument and maple body wings, dual truss rods, a bound rosewood fingerboard with crushed pearl triangle inlays, and the 33.25" scale that gives Rickenbacker basses their signature tension and articulation. Two Hi-Gain single coils, two volumes, two tones, a three-way selector, and both the standard mono output and the Rick-O-Sound stereo output for running the pickups to separate amps or channels.Red is one of the less common finishes to come across on a 4003 from this period, and paired with the black hardware it gives this bass a genuinely aggressive look that sets it apart from the Fireglo and Jetglo examples you see everywhere.Condition: Honest & DetailedWe'd grade this very good. There are dents and dings throughout the instrument, but the bass sits above player grade and presents well overall.Three specific things to call out:The truss rod cover has a small crack near the screw.The pickguard has a crack near the pots.Some of the black finish is chipping off the hardware, which is common on Rickenbackers from this era.None of this affects playability or function.
