If you're into the optical compression greatness that is the Boss CS-1, this is a SENSATIONAL sounding specimen, the sought after "silver screw" version. I really love these and have owned several over the years. They have a fairly hard "knee," which confuses some folks—it's a very audible style of compression, favored by those who like to hear compression as an effect. "Transparent," it's not. Beautiful and inspiring? Definitely!My favorite application of the CS-1 is after a looper such as a TC Ditto, with the loop volume just slightly lower than the regular signal. Set up this way, the compressor will pull the loop volume up when you stop playing, and then push the loop back further than your live instrument when you are playing. The result is a really natural sounding interplay between the two, that keeps give loops work a much livelier, "analog" feel than they have otherwise. Definitely helps keep loops work from sounding too "samey." I love it. People love them too for steel guitar, "chicken-pickin' ", ambient work, all kinds of applications. If you want that DELCIOUS opto-compressor tone, vintage circuit, affordable price, this is the way to go! Silver screw is the original and still the best. I have loads and loads of 5-star feedback and the price is right—don't miss out!!!
