Vox Unveils Starstream Active Basses, Mini Electric Guitar | SNAMM 2019

Vox's Starstream Type 1 electric guitars—which feature a unique frame body, onboard effects and DSP processing, and a combined piezo-and-magnetic pickup system—have been around since 2016.

At Summer NAMM 2019—which begins today and continues through this weekend—Vox is showing off two new Starstream Active Basses.

Starstream 1H Artist

The Starstream 1H Artist and 2S Artist active basses share the ergonomic body of the Starstream guitars, but drop the onboard effects system entirely, instead including active preamps. The result is a short, 30"-scale bass that's lightweight, balanced, and powerful.

The 1H Artist features one Aguilar humbucking pickup, while the 2S Artist has two Jazz Bass–style Aguilar pickups. The onboard preamp for both is the Aguilar OBP-2.

Each of the new basses will be available in September.

Also at the show, Vox is presenting its new SDC-1 mini electric, which takes short-scale to a whole new level.

Vox SDC-1 Mini Electric

The SDC-1 is a 4.63-lb, 18.9"-scale electric "that gives the same feel and sound as a full-size guitar," according to Vox. It features a lightweight poplar body and one mini humbucker, along with a maple neck, purpleheart fingerboard, and 19 frets.
