TOKAI Custom Edition - Restored perfectly with upgrades – MiJ 1985/86

The guitar has been restored and given a new lease of life; there are still a few cracks in the body’s finish, though the body itself is perfectly sound.

Work carried out on the body:

- complete overhaul of the original wiring with CTS 250k potentiometers (logarithmic for volume, linear for tones), a vintage oil-filled paper capacitor (new) 0.0047uF and a Switchcraft selector switch; the cable input jack has also been completely replaced;

- replacement of the original ceramic pickups (included in the purchase) with hand-wound pickups, with a resistance of around 6k;

- replacement of the bridge (the original was by now unusable) with an excellent Japanese bridge from the 1990s (56mm screw spacing but 54mm string spacing);

- copper shielding;

Work carried out on the neck:

- partial stripping of the neck to check that certain cracks in the finish did not extend into the wood and to reposition the skunk bar, which had lifted slightly;

- unsticking, cleaning and re-gluing of the rear reinforcement bar;

- replacement of white dots with genuine abalone dots (including the side ones);

- sanding down imperfections on the fingerboard (vintage 7.25'' radius);

- replacement of frets with medium jumbo steel frets;

- refinishing with nitrocellulose lacquer (using Nitorlack lacquer);

- replacement of tuners with identical Japanese-made tuners;

- custom-made genuine bone nut;
