1974 Ampeg SVT "Black Line" Bass Amp w/ 8x10 Flatback Cabinet [Fully Serviced]

Ampeg SVT with matching 8x10 cabinet circa ~1974.

This appears to be a set that have been together since new.

If you are looking for a really good vintage SVT, that has been all sorted and is ready for everything and anything, this is it.

THE HEAD:

This amp has just been fully serviced with everything it needs to keep it going for the next few decades.

Physical condition is very good, see photos. Electronically it is better than stock with no hum.

All original outside of the components mentioned below. Original transformers, potentiometers, coupling capacitors, and most other components (all the important ones!).

The preamp tubes are: V1: 12DW7 / V2: 12AX7 / V3: 12DW7 / V4: 12DW7 / V5: 6C4

The power amp tubes are: V1: 12DW7 / V2: 12BH7 / V4-9: 6550

Power tubes are 'Winged C' 6550. Previous owner said they only have a few hours on them and they test like new. One power tube is a Svetlana. The amp was missing one power tube when I acquired it, so I sent the original tubes to The Tube Store and had them match a perfect replacement.

For the preamp tubes all except one are Sylvania branded, made in USA, and appear original to the amp. There is a new JJ 12DW7 in V1 in the power amp section.

The SVT is two separate metal chassis connected by a wiring loom with Molex style connectors. After 50+ years the original connectors have worn out and are a frequent source of issues. In this amp, these have been replaced with brand new, high quality, Molex brand connectors. Exact same as the original, just re-done in 2026. I've never seen this done in a vintage SVT and it goes a long way to making the amp very reliable.

THE CABINET:

All original CTS alnico speakers. Date code is 30th week of 1973.

One of the speakers has just been reconed by Santon Audio here in Toronto. The best in the business for speaker recones. The other seven speakers are all original and working well.

The grill cloth is brand new. It is the same grill cloth used on the amp originally. This grill cloth is very hard, at times impossible to source, but I had some in stock from a couple years ago.

The cabinet originally had a 3 pin XLR connector. This was worn out and was replaced with a brand new industry standard speakON connector by Neutrik. A new custom 1/4" to speakON cable is included, made with high quality Canare cable, and Neutrik and Amphenol connectors.

One of the handles has been replaced.

Most notably on the handleless side, the tolex has seen better days. There's no doubt this cabinet was gigged with in it's over 50 year life. On that side, several strips of tolex are missing. The bare wood has been blackened, and it makes it appear nearly new at arms length, while still retaining its road worn charm. See photos.

A great example of an SVT! If I had room to keep this, I would.
