This snare drum may be the rarest and most collectable snare drums in the world! In 1989, drum manufacturer Noble & Cooley and cymbal company Zildjian teamed up and produced a special snare drum that the world had not yet ever seen; a drum shell cast out of the proprietary Zildjian B20 cymbal bronze alloy and assembled by the masters at Noble & Cooley using their striking black coated brass hex lugs, die-cast hoops and trademark throw-off.  Over time, these drums became extremely coveted for both their rarity and unique sound.  Only around 300 drums of the original 6.5x14” size were produced. The numbers of these bronze drums dwindled as cracks emerged in some drums due to issues with casting. 

I am a drummer who also collects and builds snare drums. I purchased this drum used in 2008. It was a player but had been well used. In 2012, I contacted Jay Jones at Noble & Cooley and asked if they could restore this drum at the factory where it was born. The snare is now museum quality; it has since been stored in a case in a climate-controlled room and never played. 

The restoration by the manufacturer included a complete disassembly and cleaning. The shell was resealed. The black chrome hardware was originally electroplated and wore off with use, so Jay powder coated the brass die cast rims, lugs and throw off. Any damaged or stripped lug hardware was replaced. New Noble & Cooley heads, tension rods and proprietary snare wires were added. I now have what I believe is the finest example of the most sought-after snare drums ever!! It is the Holy of Holy’s.

The serial number stamped on the interior of the shell identifies it as the 165th one made in 1989. The factory etched “A” shows it has been restored. This is one heavy drum – tipping the scales at 18 lbs. It is loud and cuts and tunes up nicely through the range. Please Google these drums for sound bites and other opinions. 

This drum will come with Noble and Cooley tuning key and box. It will also be shipped in a hard-shell snare case. Low ballers and tire kickers will be ignored.
