1961 DeArmond R5T Combo Amp, Tube Driven Tremolo Circuit,

Made by Rowe Industries in Toledo, OH USA

Serial Number: A4 1595, "The R5T is a Recording Dream Come True"

CONDITION: The Overall condition is good this came from a local Studio Collection and was working well when we received it. It appears to have been welll maintained and used daily in the Studio. We went through it and made sure it is sound and has no issues. There is a hard wired footswitch that works perfect for the Tube Driven Tremolo. There is typical wear present, oxidation and pitting on the control panel. a little wear on the corners all acceptable for a 60 plus year Old Vintage Amp. The Handle appears to have been changed at some point in its life. This being a Studio item has had constant maintenance and sounds incredible. Our Amp Tech Went through it throughly checked all the soldier joints, caps and resistors. This is an amzing sounding Amp very sought after and hard to find.

The DeArmond R5T is a vintage tube amplifier, manufactured between 1959 and 1962, that is known for its high-quality components and classic "tweed era" tone. It is the tremolo-equipped version of the R5T and is often Revered as one of the Best Recording Amps Ever !

Star Amp Review:

The DeArmond R5T is a vintage 5-watt tube amplifier prized for recording, known for its versatile clean-to-overdrive tones and onboard tremolo. It is a great option for players who want a small, powerful amp with a classic, "Champ"-style circuit that can be mic'd for bigger gigs or used for studio work.

Vintage Guitar Review:

"When talk amongst vintage-amp aficionados turns to “best-sounding small combos,” bids for the early Fender Princeton or Deluxe, Vox AC15, or Marshall 18-watter are often trumped by the relatively few who have experienced the glories of a DeArmond. But those who know are passionate about the sound of those diminutive creations from northern Ohio."

Tone and sound

Vintage amp reviews note that the R5T offers a versatile sound profile with a dynamic mix of clean headroom and great tube saturation.

  • Clean tones: Bright and clean at lower volumes.
  • Overdrive and breakup: As you increase the volume, the amp produces a natural, full, and throaty overdrive with an aggressive attack and searing top-end.
  • Tremolo: The tremolo circuit can produce a wide range of effects, from a subtle pulse to a more pronounced, "in-your-face" chop.
