its a Video i/o device, Analog & Digital ADC & DAC
has sound drivers but only work in some softwares like Adobe.
up to FullHD 30p or 720p 59i + All common formats NTSC, PAL, Y/C "SuperVideo", YPbPr, SDI, AES, etc..
Near 0-Latency WhatYouSeeIsWhatYouGet Output. WYSIWYG.
can convert any i/o format to any i/o in RealTime.
Encode & Transcode h.264 MP4 in DSP = No fan noise "quiet", Low Power Consumption, Faster than most CPUs, Quality depends on the settings, up to 50Mbps.

Better Quality vs. Handbrake.fr with h.264 Nvidia GPU Encoder at highest quality,
tested GTX Titan 6GB SC 388.71 | 1050Ti 416.34
Nvidia GPU h.264 Encoder its a separate core/module in the GPU, the same for different GPU´s.

MAX can Scale Down & Up in DSP example: to & from FullHD.30fps, 720p, NTSC, PAL.
Works with ProTools Video Engine Out, tested: PTHD 12.6, also works with Avid Media Composer, Adobe.
ProTools works in OSX HighSierra 10.13.6 from 2018.12 to 2020.12

MXO2 does Not work in OSX Mojave, Nor Higher. <---
OSX Drivers work up to HighSierra 10.13.6 | Matrox discontinued MXO2.
has 2 drivers for OSX HighSierra:
with MAX DSP but Not QuickTime, or
with QuickTime but Not MAX DSP.

drivers cannot be installed at same time,
but could have an external SSD USB3 boot drive, with the other driver in other OSX.
example:
QuickTimePlayer allows to Record ProRes 422 using HighQuality setting.
OBS, Zoom and others require QuickTime driver.
but Adobe, FinalCut, ProTools, MediaComposer require MAX driver.

Mac:
FinalCut Pro 1O.4.3 + Compressor 4.4.1
Win & Mac:
Adobe CS6 Media Encoder, Encore, Premier, AfterFX and others.

Windows:
has WebCam Emulator, but webcam sound does Not work in OBS.
has Matrox MAX h.264 Capture Software for Windows *allows to Record any input & encode with MAX DSP to h.264 .mp4 in Real Time.
OSX had a similar stand alone software:
Matrox Ventura Capture, but only works with OSX Maverics 10.9.5, Maybe Yosemite 10.10,
can have an external USB3 boot drive with other OSX if needed.
Windows Matrox MAX h.264 Capture seeems more advanced, stable.

Adobe CS6 installers for Windows creates Shortcuts for 32-Bits Only, Matrox MAX requires 64-Bit, needs to manualy edit the shortcuts.
Adobe CS6 seems to work better on OSX High Sierra, for transcoding with MAX Dsp.
OSX allows to convert 4K60fps.mp4 file to FullHD, but cant remember if was FinalCut or Adobe.

maybe is possible to LiveStream Max DSP h.264 to OBS using VLC to play Matrox MAX h.264 Capture Temp file.
Untested.
some people do that with BlackMagic h.264 Pro Recorder.

OSX:
transcoding "send file" from FinalCut->Compressor 4.4.1
allows to activate: CPU+GPU+MAX DSP = Better vs. Adobe MediaEncoder CPU+DSP Only.
less CPU & faster.

Adobe MediaEncoder has HighQuality CPU setting "double time" but visual result is Not Better vs. DSP with HighQuality "CPU" Off.
looks: "a bit more Sharpness in Bright Areas and less Dynamic in Shadows"
Not worth 2x Time in my opinion.
similar to Multi-Pass in HandBrake.

Aobe MediaEncoder CS6 & Apple Compressor 4.4.1
are the last versions with MAX support, i tested...
Following versions of Apple, MAX do Not work.
haven´t tested Adobe MediaEncoder cc 2014 2015 2016.
MAX Dsp encoder probably won´t work,
Video Out some say on forums, works doing a workaround in Windows,
copy an older Adobe file to New Adobe cc, but only works up to 2020

havent tested MacPro6,1 2013 but should work Ok.
also should work on any MacBookPro 2018 & older that supports OSX HighSierra officially *Not all support, usually has TB2.
search EveryMac for more info.
is possible to install older OSX in Newer machines using OpenCore+Proxmox but is Unsupported.

OSX 10.13.4 removed support for Thunderbolt2 eGPU, added TB3 support in 10.13.3, requires a patch to re-activcate TB2 eGPU in 10.13.6.
IF want to use BlackMagic eGPU Rx580 or Vega56 + FinalCut Pro + Compressor in OSX HighSierra on a MacMini 2014 or MacPro6,1 2013 or MacBookPro with TB2
TB3 eGPU requires Apple TB2 to TB3 adapter.

To install Matrox driver for Win1O, requires to Boot in Recovery Mode to Dissable Signature Driver Enforcement, install & Reboot.
if does Not work, also requires, installing as Administrator in Recovery Mode,
if does Not worl, also requires Activating "Test Mode" c:\>bcdedit testmode on.
W1O has many different versions, older .iso installers could install more easy.
