Gibson 498T / 490R 2013 Black Pickups

For Sale:  Gibson 498T and 490R Pickups

I'm selling a mint pair of Gibson pickups, the fabled 498T and 490R set.  These pickups were originally installed in a 2013 Gibson Faded Les Paul.  I changed out these pickups for Gibson Burstbuckers.  The 498/490 pickup pair is a great combo but I was looking for a lower output pickup pair.  Both are 4-conductor and have black plastic covers.  

While installed in the Faded Les Paul, these pickups sounded just fine.  The 498T is a high output Alnico V pickup with a output resistance of 14.33k ohms.  The pickup is bright and hot and sounded really nice, but for my tastes it is too hot.  The 498 is a hotter version of the 490T with more windings and a different magnet.  The tone is really nice, hot and bright.  It's not vintage warm however.  It does cut well in a mix and for moderate to high gain players it is just the ticket!

The 490R is actually a really nice neck pickup.  The output is vintage-low at 7.84k ohms and has a nice articulate warm sound.  I would have kept it if not for the black pickup cover.  It wasn't muddy at all in the Faded Les Paul, it had a great tone with just enough high end sparkle.  Both pickups are suited nicely for this guitar, however I wanted a lower output bridge pickup and honestly, the black covers are not that attractive.  

The pickups have plenty of lead left.  They are both 4-conductor so you can setup coil taps or parallel/series wiring.  Note that the coil tap leads are taped together.  If you want to coil tap them, just remove the tape and solder them to a push/pull or toggle switch.

The pickups work perfectly and have no electrical or cosmetic issues.  They sound pretty nice through my Marshall amp, but for me, they just didn't have the tone I was looking for.  My loss is now your gain.
