Here’s an elegant looking 1999 PRS McCarthy Soapbar upgraded with Jason Lollar P-90 pickups. Purchased new in 2012 (!) in a shop in Amsterdam it’s a true example of what you’d call New Old Stock. Personally I like the stubtle looks of this natural finished McCarty with it’s gorgeous flamed maple top and exquisite quality mahogany body and neck. This PRS has it’s own kind of “chique”, and will most likely even appeal to more vintage-oriented players who wouldn’t have imagined a PRS to be their next guitar..
This PRS is in mint condition as it most likely didn’t see much action during the first part of it’s existence. There are just a few light superficial scratches on the back which could easily be polished away, and aside from a hint of fretwear on the first few frets you’re basically looking at an almost new guitar.
These soapbar fitted McCarty’s were produced between 1998 and 2007 and featured two P-90 pickups made by Seymour Duncan to PRS specs. The previous owner upgraded the pickups with Lollar P-90’s, which are among the best pickups available if you’d ask me, and the original pickups are included too. The guitar sports PRS’s wide/fat neck which is comparable to a modest sized 50’s shape Les Paul neck. Tone-wise I would consider this to be in the same league as the construction of the guitar with it’s stoptail bridge, chunky neck, mahogany neck and body with maple top, and superb sounding P-90 pickups is very reminiscent of a 50’s Goldtop Les Paul. All in all this PRS McCarty is the perfect blend between vintage tone and feel, and the modern level of excellence that PRS is known for.
I dare say this is one of the finest and best sounding instruments to come in lately, and with the Lollar pickups the sound is simply out of this world! The original case is included, as well as the original invoice ,the original pickup’s, and some case-candy. As you can tell from the invoice (see pics) this guitar was sold for quite a bit more than I’m asking now , and that was before the Lollars. If you’re looking for a topnotch P-90 equipped guitar that offers superior quality and tone, this is a terrific deal for sure!
