Inventory Number: A098Serial Number: 3397Yes, the Lab Series L5 (Model 308A) was made in the United States. Manufacturing & Background

  • The Moog & Gibson Connection: These famous late-1970s analog solid-state amplifiers were manufactured by Norlin, which was the parent company of both Gibson and Moog Music at the time.
  • Factory Location: They were built at the Moog factory in Buffalo, New York, using electronic engineering expertise from Moog synthesizer designers (such as Dan Pearce) to create highly complex, tube-like tone shaping and onboard compression.
  • Legendary Status: The 100-watt, 2x12 L5 combo is widely considered one of the greatest solid-state guitar amplifiers ever made. It was famously used as the primary amplifier for blues legend B.B. King and rock guitarist Ty Tabor of King's X.
