This 2011 ES-335 from the Memphis Custom Shop is closely modeled after the 1963 ES-335TD. Gibson subsequently introduced the successor—designated the "1963 ES-335TD"—at the NAMM Show in January 2016. Almost all specifications (small block inlays, Historic Burst, tubeless Historic truss rod, lightweight center block, etc.) were transformed from the model shown here, which came factory-equipped with the proven '57 Classic pickups before they were replaced ca 2014 from Gibson by the then-brand-new MHS humbuckers.
Our example is in impeccable condition and immediately impresses with its exceptionally lively, characterful tone. The neck features the characteristic rounded '63 profile and feels very comfortable in the hand—an experience enhanced by the fret wire, which is slightly taller than that found on later models. A fantastic guitar!
