Greco SA-550 1980 - Cherry -Super real era - VIDEO

Here is a stunning 1980 Greco SA-550, made in Japan during the "Super Real" era. This is significant because, having handled and worked on quite a few Grecos over the years, I’ve seen firsthand the build quality of the 1980–81 period. From the precision of the craftsmanship and the choice of tonewoods to the hardware and pickups—everything is top-notch.
That’s why I tend to favor guitars from those years when Japanese craftsmanship was truly exceptional.

The SA-550 is a rather unique model. It naturally brings to mind the Gibson ES-335—sharing its body lines and the 19th-fret neck joint—but make no mistake: the 550 is a true hollowbody. It lacks a center block, much like an ES-330 or a Casino, yet it’s equipped with humbuckers!
And that is a fantastic combination. You get the resonant body tone, the attack, and the depth characteristic of a full hollowbody.

It comes with its original Maxon PU-2 pickups, nickel hardware (identical to the Super Real series), and "tulip" style tuners. The choice of woods is excellent: lovely maple visible beneath the translucent Cherry finish, a beautiful rosewood fretboard, and a mahogany neck featuring a volute behind the headstock.

The icing on the cake? It’s lightweight—just 3.23 kg.
