Gibson Historic Custom Shop ‘61 Les Paul reissue with Lyre Vibrola.
1961 brought some big changes to the Gibson Les Paul; most notably a sleek, all-new, double-cutaway, all-mahogany body design that would later be renamed the SG. This Gibson Custom Shop model recreates that original model, complete with a Sideways Vibrola, a side-pull action vibrato that is similar to those found on models from the early 1960s. It also has a bound Authentic '61 Thin Profile mahogany neck, Kluson tuners, and an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge
This near mint condition 2000 Gibson ‘61 Les Paul is from the first year of this reissue model, pre custom shop certificate period. It is all original condition, and from a sought after period for Gibson guitars. They used highly figured Madagascar rosewood for the fretboards, which is visually very similar to Brazilian rosewood with chocolatey streaks etc. - Gibson soon reverted to Indian rosewood due to cost. Custom Shop also got the historic body bevels correct, with proper sharp horns. And Aniline cherry red dye finish was used as standard during these years – this meant that, just like the vintage instruments, the colour faded over time with UV exposure. You can see on this guitar the cherry colour still evident on the rear of the body, whereas the front has faded to that light walnut colour - Gibson later reintroduced this as a special feature upcharge!
This 26-year-old guitar does have some tiny marks (see last 4 pictures) but overall is in superb condition and comes complete with its original Gibson Tan hard case.
