Since releasing his self-titled debut album in 2007, Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Steve Gunn has been a busy musician, lending his talents to The Violators supporting Kurt Vile and blazing his own trail as a solo artist. With influences ranging from John Fahey to La Monte Young, his songs are texturally rich, hanging in place and adding layers but with enough narrative movement to keep things interesting.
We had a chance to sit down with Steve before a recent show at Schuba's in Chicago supporting his new album "Way Out Weather," catching up on what gear he uses to recreate his lush studio sounds in a live setting. Hear him talk about his love for Guild guitars, his custom-made Kelly Tele and how some pedals most people associate with harder rock can be dialed in for more subtle work.
