About this listing
Hello,Up for sale is a circa 1948 Gibson ES-300. There is no serial number or visible Factory Order Number I can see but the headstock logo and tailpiece suggest a late 40’s model. The guitar is all original apart from the vintage correct 5-ply pickguard. It has a beautiful warm and articulate P-90 reading at 6.7k resistance, and the original nickel tailpiece, tuners, pots and tone pots.Cosmetically, it has some lacquer checking which looks great in person, and there have been some touch ups over the years. I also think the neck has had some overspray. There is a bit of buckle rash on the back, but overall it’s very clean. The guitar had a headstock crack repaired a long time ago. The previous owner, who bought it in the US, says the repair had already been done at least 30 years ago. The repair looks well done and the crack did not go completely through the neck or headstock. It extends around half a cm into the headstock. It has remained stable and is the reason I’m selling the guitar at a players guitar price rather than as a collectors piece. It plays and sounds fantastic with low action and plenty of volume acoustically. The frets are original low, narrow frets typical of the era. They are quite low now, so there isn’t much scope for a fret dress, although there is still some life left in them. The P-90 has the typical warm, clear and articulate sound of this era, with plenty of growl when played harder but a nice sweetness when played softly.Comes with non original hard case. Thanks for looking. No trades please.
