About this listing
Here’s a super rare, fantastic sounding one-of-kind Gibson. This guitar started its life as an Advanced Jumbo in the 1930’s. At some point in the late 1950’s the guitar was sent back to Gibson where it was re-topped, re-necked with a Southern Jumbo neck, and refinished at the factory. All work has been confirmed to have been done by Gibson. The guitar now is essentially a 24 ¾” scale Southern Jumbo with an extra deep 1930’s rosewood body, measuring 4 ⅝” deep at the lower bout. It appears as if the pickguard may have been off the guitar and reglued at some point. This AJ/SJ was constructed with a spruce top, rosewood back and sides, a bound mahogany neck with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard featuring pearloid parallelogram inlays, and a Brazilian rosewood bridge. The neck has a width of 1 11/16” at the nut, a depth of 0.92” deep at the first fret, and a depth of 1.04” deep at the tenth fret. The guitar has a 24 3/4” scale and weighs 4.40 lbs. The back of the neck is finished as a 1930’s Advanced Jumbo would be and the guitar retains the original tuners. An interesting, one-of-a-kind Gibson with a huge, deep, ringing sound and haunting midrange. This would make an incredible addition to a studio for recording as well as a particularly inspiring songwriting companion. Comes with a non-original hardshell case. The guitar is also available to play at TR Crandall Guitars in New York City if you are local and want to check it out in person
