FULLTONE Tube Tape Echo Unit with Extra Tapes and New Spare Roller EXC+I remember when I bought this for my studio. It arrived, and being the curious person that I am, I put it on the bench and carefully removed it from the case to see how it was constructed. The first thing I saw was the ceramic tube sockets and, as I kept inspecting the construction, I knew this was a serious bit of tube gear. Everything about it is first class. This Fulltone tape echo unit is a hand built analog tape delay that uses a physical loop of magnetic tape to create warm, organic all analog echoes and slapback delays. Before Fulltone ceased production of these analog tape echo units, they produced them up to highest modern standards as reliable re-creations or homages to classic vintage tape delays from the 1960s and 1970s, eliminating the high failure rates and excessive noise of original vintage gear. Launched around 2004, this unit was inspired by the tube-driven Maestro Echoplex EP-2 (1961). It features vacuum tubes (12AX7 and 12AU7/12AT7) in the audio path, which can saturate your signal and provide a warm tube boost.Key Features and ImprovementsReal Magnetic Tape: Instead of digital chips or bucket-brigade analog circuits, it runs a physical loop of tape inside a specialized Fulltone ETC-1 tape cartridge. Two extra tape carts plus a new capstan idler roller are included. Movable Playback Head: You can physically slide the playback head or adjust the speed controls to change the delay time (ranging from short slapback to up to a full second or more). Modern Upgrades: Unlike vintage units, Fulltone added a quiet, torque-adjusting DC motor, true bypass functionality, stereo output options, and independent controls for instrument volume, echo volume, and repeats.
