For guitarists pushing into lower tunings and heavier territory without wanting to abandon Fender's unmistakable design language, the Limited Edition Player Fusion Jaguar Baritone Special turns the iconic offset into a purpose-built instrument for modern heavy music. The Jaguar began life in the early 1960s as one of Fender's most feature-rich guitars, but the Fusion Series takes a very different approach, retaining the recognizable silhouette while reworking the platform around the demands of contemporary players. A 27" baritone scale, B-to-B factory tuning, dual high-output humbuckers, ebony fingerboard, and black-accented Silverburst aesthetic give this Jaguar a darker identity built for substantial low-end and aggressive amplification.
Rather than simply stretching a conventional Jaguar into baritone dimensions, Fender has adapted the instrument around extended-range performance. The alder body retains a familiar Fender foundation, while the bolt-on maple neck uses a Thin C profile and a flat 12" radius ebony fingerboard with 22 jumbo frets. Its longer scale helps maintain definition and string tension when tuned down to B, making low riffs feel more controlled while preserving clarity through fast runs and complex chord voicings. The Adjusto-Matic bridge and stop tailpiece further separate this instrument from the traditional Jaguar formula, creating a straightforward, solid platform suited to metal, doom, sludge, post-metal, shoegaze, alternative, progressive rock, and other styles where weight and articulation need to coexist.
Two Player II Modified humbuckers supply the output needed to drive a heavy rig, but the Fusion Jaguar's electronics keep it from becoming a one-dimensional baritone. Fender repurposes the familiar Jaguar rhythm-control area for its Spin-a-Split circuit, using roller controls to progressively move the humbuckers toward split-coil sounds rather than limiting the player to a simple full-or-split choice. A Master TBX Tone control adds another layer of tonal shaping, allowing the guitar to move from thick, saturated rhythm sounds toward leaner and more cutting textures that can occupy a different space in a dense arrangement. The result is a Jaguar that respects its offset ancestry while deliberately leaving traditional Jaguar conventions behind: A Fender designed for musicians whose riffs live considerably lower on the frequency spectrum. Available now at Haggerty’s Music, this guitar ships with a gig bag for convenient transport and reliable protection.
