Beautiful 1957 Danelectro U-3 in Copper Burst, serial #1097, with its vintage wood hardshell case and unusually good provenance. This guitar came from my father's collection and includes an old handwritten identification note stating:“Dano U-3 – Ser# 1097 – 10th week of 1957 – Copper Burst + wood case.”Also included is a dated sales receipt from June 7, 1977, identifying the guitar as Danelectro U-3 No. 1097 and showing a purchase price of $800. Both pieces of documentation will stay with the guitar. The U-3 was Danelectro's three-pickup version of its original U-series and was produced only briefly in 1957–1958. This example has the classic Copper Burst finish, three lipstick pickups, stacked controls and the unmistakable early Danelectro construction and styling. Wikimedia CommonsThe guitar has obviously been played and should be considered a genuine vintage instrument rather than a museum-piece example. I have not attempted to clean up, restore or alter it. Please look closely at all photographs for the condition of the finish, hardware, neck, frets and case; the photos are part of the description. What makes this one particularly appealing to me is that the guitar hasn't become separated from its history over the decades — the instrument, vintage case, old identification note and 1977 receipt are still together.Included: 1957 Danelectro U-3, vintage wood hardshell case, handwritten identification/provenance note, and original 1977 sales receipt.Part of the original Sixth String Guitars collection from my father's former guitar shop in Stony Brook, New York.Offers welcome. Please Note: This is a vintage guitar being sold from a private collection. It is being sold as-is, as shown in the photographs, with no warranty expressed or implied. I have made every effort to accurately describe the guitar and its condition, but I am not a guitar technician and cannot guarantee its internal components, originality, service history or performance beyond what is stated in the listing. Prospective buyers are welcome to ask questions or arrange an inspection before purchasing. All sales are final.
