There's tons of Halloween and horror-themed gear out there, complete with hokey paint jobs and slasher flick motifs, many of which you can browse in our Spooky Gear collection. But then, there are other guitars that go beyond the blood spatter finishes and might just legitimately be haunted.
Though Halloween isn't until next week, we'd be remiss if we didn't join the rest of the internet and get in on all the spine-chilling action. So in the spirit of the season, we're spending some time today highlighting ten currently listed guitars that, in our opinion, carry especially frightening backstories and may house supernatural spirits of some kind.

Found on Reverb1840s James Ashborn Parlor Guitar with Coffin Case
Built in 1840s by James Ashborn's company, this neglected parlor guitar has lied dormant in a coffin-style case for decades. It's a lot like a vampire in that regard.
Mysterious Lap Steel Project
Very little is known about this particular lap steel. What's clear from the images on the listing, though, is that this instrument has been through a lot and has seen some terrifying things in its life.
Highly Modded '60s SG Junior
What started life as a '67 Gibson SG Junior has been transformed, mutated, and frankensteined into what you see today. Its bizarre batwing cutaways are clearly the work of some evil transdimensional force.
Cigarbox Guitar with Actual Crocodile Skull
For sale by Preacher Guitars in St. Petersburg, Russia, this cigarbox design uses a legitimate crocodile skull for its body. According to the seller, this guitar was built in tribute to the "...dark side of Louisiana voodoo."
Postal Guitars Crossroads Electric with Barn Wood Top
Keeping with the reptilian theme, this build from Postal Guitars features alligator leather appointments. The top wood comes from an old barn that very well may have been the scene of some sort of sinister ritual or event.
Blueberry 12-string with Satanic Inlay and Carvings
Look through the images on this listing and you can the extremely detailed satanic imagery on the body and fretboard inlay.
George Lynch "Dem Bones" Guitar
It's widely acknowledged that skeletons are usually haunted. This particular skeletal specimen was built by shredder extraordinaire George Lynch, so there's bound to be something extra mystical going on.
JC Custom Tree Slice Special
This guitar is built from a slice of a single tree. There's nothing especially villainous about that to begin with, but imagine for a moment that that tree was the home to some form of restless forest spirit.
1958 Fender Stratocaster owned by Billy Corgan
Smashing Pumpkins mainman Billy Corgan has always had a certain spectral vibe about him, and it's probably safe to assume that this '58 Strat he's selling is haunted in some way or another. As they say, "the world is a vampire."
Custom Made Dog Guitar
There's just something just unsettling about these dogs.
