This is a 2019 Gibson Les Paul Standard ’50s Goldtop, part of the refreshed Original Collection that brought the Standard back to a traditional, no-frills vintage formula. It pairs a non-weight-relieved mahogany body with a carved maple cap, a mahogany neck, bound rosewood fretboard, and the fuller ’50s-style neck profile that many players associate with the best classic Les Pauls.

The Goldtop is the highlight of this particular guitar and presents beautifully. It has the timeless combination of metallic gold, cream binding, cream pickup rings, a cream pickguard, and amber top-hat knobs. The top is remarkably clean relative to the wear found elsewhere, giving it a strong presentation from the front without looking overly polished or sterile.

The original Burstbucker 1 neck and Burstbucker 2 bridge pickups use Alnico 2 magnets and deliver the familiar open, responsive character associated with vintage-style Gibson humbuckers. The neck pickup is warm and full without becoming muddy, while the bridge has the punch, midrange bite, and clarity needed for both rhythm work and lead playing. These pickups respond especially well to changes in volume and picking dynamics, moving naturally from cleaner tones into a strong classic-rock sound.

Traditional hand-wired controls give each pickup its own volume and tone control, along with a three-way toggle switch. The hardware includes an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, aluminum stop bar, and vintage-style Keystone tuners, keeping the overall construction close to the late-1950s Les Paul formula.

The mahogany neck has Gibson’s substantial ’50s Vintage profile. It fills the hand more than a SlimTaper neck but remains comfortable and easy to play, particularly with the low action on this guitar. The rosewood fretboard has 22 medium-jumbo frets, which remain in excellent condition and feel smooth across the entire neck. It has received a recent setup, the neck is playing well, and the intonation is spot on.

At 8.82 pounds on my scale, it has the solid feel and resonance expected from a traditional non-weight-relieved Les Paul without being unusually heavy. The original pickups sound punchy and lively, and the guitar plays exceptionally well.

The overall Good condition rating is based primarily on several cosmetic dings found on the mahogany back and around the neck heel area. The Goldtop itself remains in excellent condition and presents extremely well. On the back, there are a few localized dings that have broken through the finish, including one near the lower edge. There is also a finish chip and additional wear around the neck heel/body transition, along with a small divot near the inner side of the neck joint. These areas are clearly photographed. Beyond those concentrated marks, the guitar has been kept in very good shape and remains an excellent-playing instrument.

It includes the original Gibson hardshell case and complete original case candy, including the inspection card, owner’s manual, factory photograph, Gibson cloth, multi-tool, and accompanying paperwork.
