Jim Keays (of The Masters Apprentices) family has decided it's time to move on some of Jim's collection. We start with this Gibson Explorer III from 1984. Wow!, we've never had one of these in before. Time to ride the lightening.

Only in production for one year, the Explorer III differed from other Explorers in a few ways. For one, it used an Alder body instead of Mahogany. Additionally, the Explorer III wielded three P-90 pickups instead of humbuckers and lacked a pickgaurd.

Years of Production: 1984 - 1985

Body Style: Angled solidbody

Wood Composition: Alder body, Maple neck, Rosewood fingerboard

Design Elements: Three P-90 pickups, two controls, tune-o-matic bridge, stopbar tailpiece

Notable Explorer Players: The Edge, Billy Gibbons, James Hetfield
