Vintage JBL Control 1 Xtreme Passive Speakers — sold as a pair. As used by Don Bartley as Mastering Boom Box Simulation Reference - Studios 301
These are rugged, two‑way small studio monitors from JBL’s Control series with titanium‑laminate tweeters and robust polypropylene cabinets — great for small room listening, studio surrounds, or side channels. Technically passive — require an external amp or receiver.
As used in the 90s by Don Barley at Studios 301 for floor placed "boom box" simulation in his mastering studio. Positioned on a carpeted floor, corner of room as a close cluster, virtual floor sitting micro boom box or domestic hifi style sim.
Condition: Tested and working.
Cosmetic: Good visual appearance, light scuffs on rear of boxes.
Included: 2 x passive speakers and front grills
Sound notes: Punchy and balanced for their size — crisp highs and pleasant mids, limited bass below ~80 Hz (ideal to pair with a sub). They will deliver more presence than generic shelf speakers and carry that classic JBL character without sounding mushy.
