GIBSON 1959 ETG -150 TENOR 4 strings Special Order Tenor neck. Cherry Sunburst code GI172

This is the very rare 4-string tenor version. Gibson ETG-150 Tenor 4 strings Cherry Sunburst #S9012-1  1959 Arch Top Hollow Body Electric Tenor Guitar made in Kalamazoo, one P90 Tone-Volum. Maple back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard. Set up ready to play with low action. A stunning piece in more than excellent condition. Comes in a modern hard case.

Besides its historical value the ETG-150 is a great and unique sounding instrument, certainly one of the best electric 4-strings ever built. His 4-string variant of ES-150 was the instrument of choice for Tiny Grimes, his contemporary and acolyte in the Harlem-based jazz scene of the time. This 1959 Gibson is the Tenor variant of the classic ES-150 guitar that has inspired generations. The instrument comes in a classic Cherry Sunburst finish with a beautifully clean Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard. All original from the Tuning Keys to the Bridge, it is rare to find a Gibson ETG-150 in this condition - if you can find one at all! With no cracks in the clean and cared-for spruce top and its slim V-profiled neck, this Electric Tenor is an extraordinary and exceptionally fun instrument to play. This ETG-150's original P90 has the same sweet attitude that Gibson P90's are renowned for, making for a satisfying and nimble instrument, whether you're comping complex chords or running fast single-note passages during your performance.
However, at the beginning of the production process, they received a Factory Order Number or FON. Serial numbers were assigned at the end of the production process. On this Gibon TG-150, the FON is S 90121, and the S dates it to 1959. The FON system was discontinued in 1961.
