1988 Washburn Japan Bantam Headless Bass Steinberger Copy Mate Black

This is a fairly rare Washburn Steinberger copy, made in Japan. It’s much higher quality than other Japanese Steinberger copies I’ve seen, and really has a fantastic feel and sound. This uses regular ball end bass strings, so you do not need to buy special strings. This is also made of solid wood and has passive electronics. It features a very nice Neutrik locking output jack. This bass appears to be made in The Matsumoku factory, although it could be made in the Terada factory as well.

This bass is all original aside from a few saddle screws, and a moved strap button, see pictures. Otherwise, this bass has no modifications, no issues, and no repairs. The neck is straight and it plays great with nice low action. The frets have plenty of life left and there is no buzzing or fretting out. The truss rod is fully functional and has plenty of room for future adjustments. The strings may need replacing, but I will leave that to the future owner to decide. There are some minor finish nicks, chips, scratches, and scuffs, with the worst of it being “buckle rash“ on the back of the bass. This comes with a non original Hohner hard case that perfectly fits this bass.
