The Sub Blaster 9000
You're probably asking yourself, WTF? The Sub Blaster 9000 is a one-off microphone that I built for myself to capture only deep sub bass. This was never intended to be a product. I typically use Sub Blaster 9000 in conjunction with another microphone when recording my bass amp. Onboard is a passive equalizer circuit, which filters out everything except for sub bass. It has an output transformer to provide 150 Ohms Impedance to the XLR output jack. The signal level compares with a typical dynamic microphone. I built the magnetics myself and fashioned the metalwork from scrap. There are 2 audio transformers and one audio inductor. One of the transformers and the inductor were designed specifically for this application. The speaker was salvaged from a Wurlitzer electric piano. A standard microphone stand mount is affixed it, as well as a wire handle for carrying. Sure, it looks freaking crazy. It sounds crazy deep too!
