2024 Howie Phoenix Series #P.27.102.24

Note: Be sure to check out the included video for a more detailed description and to hear this guitar in action!

This 2024 Phoenix Series comes with a hardshell case that I have customized to fit the Phoenix body shape. It has a 24-fret fingerboard with a 25.23in scale length. The Ebony fretboard has a compound radius of 15.59 inches at the tail down to 9.64 inches at the nut.

The Shape of the neck is what we call the Howie Medium Line. At the nut the depth is 0.92inches and at the 12th fret it is 0.99inches. It’s not super thin like the 1960s Gibson ES 335s and it’s not super fat and round like the older Les Paul necks. It’s right in the middle of these two. The width at the nut is 1.68inches, and at the tail it is 2.2inches.

The pickups on this guitar are Seymour Duncan’s and they are my personal favorite combination. The neck pup is the Jazz model which is their most popular neck pickup for it’s wonderful buttery tone. The bridge pup is the 59 model which behaves like a classic 1950s P.A.F. but with a crisper high end and a little more compression. It is wonderful for anything from blues to heavy metal.

The chambered body design and the wood used for this guitar make it lighter than a classic solid body. It weighs in right at 5.8lbs. Compare this to a standard Les Paul that can weigh up to 10lbs.

As usual with all our Phoenix Series guitars, this guitar is made with “diamond in the rough” materials or materials that would have otherwise been thrown away. The top and the peghead are made from a piece of hard Maple that was left outside in the weather for years. It was going to be thrown away but once it was sanded down, it was beautiful. The neck blank had a big not in it that I worked around to avoid throwing it out.

The finish on this guitar was done with a catalyzed urethane that is normally used on automobiles. This high-end urethane dries very fast and hard allowing fewer coats and a thinner finish.
