QB stamped February 1967 production AA165 circuit vintage Fender amp.

Known History

Was last purchased from Jacksons rare guitars Annandale Sydney in 2004. Its been around the world a few times with plenty of use and seen some big stages. Its a export model sold new in Australia in late 60s. It has 2 minor mods and some changes.

Mod 1 is the rectifier tube has been removed and solid state rectifier added. Can be changed back no problem

Mod 2 is a send out line has been added on back. Can be disconnected. Never been used.

Changes

The transformer has been changed to 240v probably in 80s, 3 prong power lead added and voltage tap disconnected. A tap could be reconnected rewired in.

Eminence speakers added 1980s

Changed tube sockets and tubes

Extra heat board was put in under original board when it was serviced by Mark at Megtronics Blacktown.

New reverb unit added 2016. Old spring unit is damaged but will be sent with amp.
Amp still has 2 original filter caps in the dog house. Why they weren't all replaced is unusual. Guess if there not dried out, leaking or bloated and still performing there good enough but it's common to change the lot. All pots 1966.
Amp worked a lot throughout 59 years of its life. It's a working amp. Not a loungeroom amp. Your neighbours wont like you. It's a loud 40 watts tube circuitry workhorse and built to last forever as long as parts are changed as needed. It keeps up with a drummers volume no problem. Reliable working amp.

Amp settings

Volume starts to break up around 4, 4-5 being the sweet spot. The amp sound doesn't sag after hours of gigging like other blackface amps used with rectifier tubes. This is due to the solid state rectifier mod. Power tubes bias is set just below average so they run slightly more to the cooler side. You can get it quite loud with a clean sound and cooler bias setting depending on which wattage power tubes are used. You can do your own research as there's plenty of changes you can do to alter its sound and performance.
Tubes and sockets have been tested, cleaned and replaced as needed with vintage Simpson tube tester replacing some of the tubes. New JJ 12AX7 ECC83c in V1 V2. V4 is same new tube but only tested fair. V5 has a 1980s NOS installed. V3 V6 good used tubes. 2 good power tubes closely matched P1 reads 21MA P2 22MA and test strong. Attached pics of reference paper work showing tubes. Amp is sold as a used vintage appliance so best to get it checked over if in doubt. There's some spare caps tested from a dismantled 1968 Bassman as spares but was over a decade ago. Amp was turned on and played for many hours when took photos and still be used at some gigs

Your welcome to test out amp for yourself if your local enough after prior arrangement as amp is in storage.
