This 4 string Alembic Bass was built at Alembic factory, by one of the senior luthiers as an experiment (unauthorized), hence this Alembic has no symbol on the peg-head.
Traditionally Alembic
builds their beautiful and great sounding instruments out of 6,7 or 8
different layers of wood. This bass has 10 layers and the neck is a
through neck. The scale is extra-long and all electronics are genuine
Alembic parts. This is a unique vintage instrument, with a unique sound and cosmetics. Machine heads and frets in perfect condition.
The sound is gorgeous and
the bass depth absolutely amazing. According to Alembic, this bass
dates from the early 1970s, but I don't have any proof of that. Maybe
Alembic will be able of confirming that.
It came from Electric
Lady Studios after the recording of the 1995 album, produced by Eddie Kramer “In from The Storm” (the music of Jimi Hendrix) and, apparently, was used during the recordings.
It comes with the rack mount stereo pre-amp IN2 (240V) in perfect working condition and with the portable 115V pre-amp.
I played this bass for the
last time in October 2014, at Casa da Música in Oporto, during the
reunion Concert of Arte & Oficio 40th Anniversary and
I have no intention of using it again. I am not palying the bass, except on recordings and very rarely and still have a couple more basses.
