This 2010 Gibson Les Paul Traditional in Black Gloss is exactly what I like about the earlier Traditional series. It has the familiar Les Paul recipe without trying to reinvent anything: mahogany body, carved maple cap, mahogany neck, bound rosewood board, traditional controls and a substantial rounded neck that feels much closer to the old-school side of the Les Paul family.

The Black finish works especially well on this one. I just gave the gloss top a full buff and polish, and it cleaned up beautifully. Under good light it has that deep, almost mirror-like black appearance that makes the cream plastics and amber knobs stand out.

The neck is a rounded ’59-style profile, measuring approximately .864" at the 1st fret and .978" at the 12th. It definitely has some substance to it, but it doesn't feel awkward or oversized in the hand. The rosewood board is in excellent shape, and the frets show minimal wear and feel excellent across the neck.

It recently received a setup, the intonation is spot on, and the medium action makes it comfortable without feeling overly low or finicky. At 8.9 lbs on my scale, it also comes in at a very manageable weight for a Traditional from this period.

The electronics passed my complete inspection with no issues. Sonically, this is exactly where I want a good Traditional to sit: warm and full through the neck, with plenty of punch and bite from the bridge. It has that thick Les Paul midrange without becoming muddy, and it responds really well when you dig into it.

What stood out to me:

• Deep Black Gloss finish that polished up beautifully

• Rounded ’59-style neck profile

• .864" 1st-fret / .978" 12th-fret neck measurements

• Excellent fretboard and frets

• Comfortable medium-action setup

• Spot-on intonation

• Warm, fat neck tones with a punchy bridge voice

• 8.9 lbs on my scale

• Original Gibson hardshell case

• Complete case candy

Overall condition is Very Good. The body itself came through inspection in Excellent condition, while the neck and backside were graded Very Good due to the satin finish. The guitar has clearly been played, but it has held up extremely well for a 2010 instrument and presents especially nicely after the recent polish.

It includes the original Gibson hardshell case and complete case candy.
