There are some bass players whose sound is instantly recognizable, and Glenn Hughes unquestionably belongs in that category. At first glance, it retains the vintage and deliberately stripped-down spirit of the O Bass, with its instantly recognizable offset body shape and its philosophy of focusing on efficiency rather than complexity. But a closer look quickly reveals that this version was designed as a genuine Signature instrument.

This is definitely not simply a standard O Bass repainted in purple. Orange developed this version with electronics and aesthetics specifically associated with Glenn Hughes. The most important difference can be found in the pickup: while the standard Orange and Black O Bass models use an Orange custom-wound split-coil, the Glenn Hughes Signature features a Seymour Duncan SPB-1. The positioning of this Seymour Duncan is also far from incidental. Orange placed it closer to the bridge than on a traditional Precision Bass. Its relatively moderate weight and overall balance also make it an easy instrument to live with, whether on stage or in the rehearsal room.
