Up for sale is an incredibly rare, historically significant piece of Paiste history: a factory-matched pair of pre-serial 15" Formula 602 Sound Edge Hi-Hats from the late 1960s.

This pair represents the absolute "First Generation" era of Robert Paiste's 1967 Sound Edge patent. The bottom cymbal features the legendary, ultra-dense 58 hand-crimped ripple count—a technique that was quickly abandoned for machine-stamping due to production costs. Most importantly, the bottom features the incredibly rare, plain red block font reading "SOUND EDGE BOTTOM" stamped at the 3 o'clock position, matching the standard factory layout of standard 602s before Paiste designed the stylised black wavy logos.

Condition Report:

• Bottom Cymbal: In fantastic vintage condition. The fragile hand-crimped ripples are fully intact with no cracks or splits in the valleys. The rare 3 o'clock red ink stamp is legible, but faint.
• Top Cymbal: The original red ink stamp has faded away completely over the decades. There is one small, stable flea bite on the outer rim (see dedicated macro photo). It is not a crack, does not affect the sound, and the edge remains structurally sound.
• General: Both cymbals feature a beautiful, dark, uncleaned 50+ year natural patina. Center mounting holes are perfectly round with absolutely zero keyholing or ovaling. They lie completely flat on a level surface with no warping.

This is a phenomenal recording set with a buttery, dark open slosh and a crisp, unmistakable Sound Edge chick. Perfect for serious vintage Paiste collectors or studio drummers looking for the ultimate 1960s session sound.
